Sensitivity of Thermometer
The sensitivity of the thermometer is the ability of the thermometer to detect a small change in temperature. Here are some of the factors that influence the sensitivity of glass thermometers
- Thickness of the glass wall
- A thicker glass wall reduces the sensitivity of the thermometer
- Diameter of the capillary tube
- The smaller diameter of the capillary tube, the greater the sensitivity of the thermometer
- Size of bulb
- larger bulb means more sensitivity because there is more surface area in contact
- The thickness of the capillary tube
- Thinner capillary tube isĀ more sensitive since contraction and expansion of the mercury is more obvious
